Slamming Bricks

Slamming Bricks 2022

Slamming Bricks is an annual slam poetry competition in its fifth year produced by the Western Colorado Writer’s Forum and organized by Caleb Ferganchick during Colorado West Pride’s Pride Week in Grand Junction, Colorado. Slamming Bricks is the largest LGBTQ+ regional slam poetry competition in the four corners region.

Slamming Bricks is an intersectional competition exploring resistance and liberation in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Poets from all over the American West compete in four rounds of poetry in a battle for the brick.

Slamming Bricks has featured Colorado Poet Laureate, Bobby LeFebre, and star of HBO’s Emmy-nominated show We’re Here, Euerka O’Hara.

You can watch the 2021 Slamming Bricks competition here, and the virtual 2020 Slamming Bricks competition here. A documentary featuring the 2022 Slamming Bricks is in production.

If you are interested in competing in Slamming Bricks, contact Caleb below. All poets receive free lodging, travel reimbursement, meals, a stipend for performing, and the opportunity to sell merchandise (no overhead fees collected). Priority is given to (1) prior performers who have not won and (2) LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and AAPI poets. Slamming Bricks 2023 registration is CLOSED.

You can also use the form below if you are interested in sponsoring Slamming Bricks. Slamming Bricks is funded through community grants and the generous support of donors.
